Resumen | Purpose of this study was to evaluate effects on water and food intake when exposed to a variety of foods. 12 Wistar rats were used, six females and 6 males. Three groups were created: Norm-Caloric Group, Hypo-Caloric Group, and Hyper-Caloric Group, each were assigned two females and two males. Experiment was divided in 7 phases. Phases 1, 3, 5, and 7 lasted 10 days. In these phases the norm-caloric group was exposed to a normcaloric diet, the hypo-caloric group to a hypo-caloric diet, and the hyper-caloric group to a hyper-caloric diet. Phases 2, 4, and 6 lasted three days, and all subjects were exposed to three diets simultaneously (Variety of foods). Results showed that subjects in normcaloric and hypo-caloric groups, and also females of the hyper-caloric group, increased their food intake during the exposure periods to the variety of foods, regardless of the type of diet they previously received. However, hyper-caloric group maintained its intake. Evidence shows that when exposed to a variety of foods the rats did not regulate their food or calorie intake. |
